New services…new capabilities…definitely new technology! This is the promising announcement made by GM recently, referring to the latest connectivity innovations like Audio Facebook and Voice Texting to be featured in your OnStar-equiped vehicle. Aside from the next-generation hardware and overhauled IT Infrastructure, a phone application is likewise included in the OnStar system that will be able to start your car and work your horn, lights and locks remotely.
Listening to your news feed and updating your status with an audio recording is how Audio Facebook works. Another stand-out inclusion is being able to send a voice-activated response. You cannot dictate long text message responses, though, as this is the kind of thing GM is extremely cautious about due to safety concerns. Nevertheless, you can say, for example, “I’m driving” and then your car will send a message about how you’re busy driving at the moment. The Audio Facebook and Voice Texting feature of GM’s OnStar system are still on beta and early testing phase, respectively.
MyLinks, on the other hand, will allow you to remotely start your OnStar-equiped car and activate other functions like horn, lights, lock and unlock doors, and all other functions available on a traditional key fob. Versions have already been featured in the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range capability and the all-new Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan. I see all the GM models at the Valencia Auto Center.
With all these “infotainment” available in cars that is believed to be more of a distraction rather than an simple entertainment, it is important that GM maintains its major innovations within its long-term strategy built on “Responsible Connectivity”.

to remind you that they’ll all be open this long Labor Day weekend. They all have end-of-the-year specials and 2010 closeouts. Now is a great time to look at a new or used vehicle in Santa Clarita.
