One of the biggest investments an individual will make in their lifetime will be the purchasing of a vehicle. Cars aren’t cheap and the cost of maintenance and repairs required in keeping a car running well can be astronomical. So, it is no surprise that new car owners want to take every possible step necessary to ensure that their vehicle is well cared for. Properly breaking in a new car is on the mind of many new car owners, as they drive off the lot of a dealership. While the question is complex in itself, there are several recommendations regarding breaking in a new car, that are helpful in prolonging the life of a new vehicle.

First tip to properly breaking in a new car is to drive gently. The first 2000 miles on a vehicle are crucial and it is important to not only drive conservatively, but to also keep the RPMs under 3500 for the first 500 miles.

There is no rocket science involved in breaking in a car’s engine. Simply drive 30 mph and then allow your engine to accelerate to 50 mph. It is important to continue this routine during the first 3000 miles of your car’s life.

For those wanting their vehicle to make the long haul, it is imperative that the car, specifically the engine, is properly broken in. Failing to properly break in your car could have some devastating consequences, including engine failure and deficits in the parts.

There are a few myths centered on breaking in cars that are leased. It may not seem to be a valid concern for those leasing, to dedicate the time to properly break in their car; however the short term consequences of not complying with the recommendations, affect the driver. A standard lease can leave you with the same vehicle for several years, and the quality of the auto maintenance provided will reflect the car’s overall performance.

As we enter into the 2011 Memorial Day weekend we need to remember what this day means to our country. Sure, traditionally auto dealers promote big Memorial Day weekend at the Valencia Auto Mallsales and great deals during this holiday weekend. And of course you will find all the deals and specials at the Valencia Auto Center. But we do want to stop just a moment to remember why we have Memorial Day. Below is a brief history of how this holiday came to be. In honor of all the men and women who have served our country and have paid the ultimate price we salute you. All of us continue to remember you not just this weekend, but throughout the year.

History of Memorial Day

On the last Monday of every May the United States observes a holiday known as Memorial Day. Decoration Day, as it was originally called, is a day to celebrate and honor the soldiers that served the United States and died while serving their country. It is a day that was intended to be spent reflecting on those that sacrificed their lives for the love of their country.

Memorial Day was first started to honor the soldiers who fought in the Civil War. After World War II they continued observing this as a holiday and went on to honor all the people who served in any of the wars and who had passed on.

On Memorial Day many will visit the graves of their loved ones who have passed on. You will often see an American flag waving in the breeze next to the deceased’s burial resting spot.

Memorial Day is often referred to as Poppy Day as well. On this holiday you will see the traditional red poppy being offered to passersby with a collection kettle for donations nearby. It was two women who started this tradition of selling artificial poppies, as they collected money for the widows and children who were left behind by their husbands and fathers who were soldiers. These red poppies are also seen on Veteran’s Day although they were first observed on Memorial Day.

Today, Memorial Day celebrations are plentiful and include parades honoring this day and its meaning, family events, fireworks displays, sporting events and more.
